Making Ice Eggs in Primary Three February 2015

18th Feb 2015

We filled balloons with water and put them in the freezer over night.  We worked in pairs lifting the ice eggs out of a basin and placing it onto a tray. We used magnifiers to look closely at the egg. Each pupil was timed to see how many seconds the egg could be held for. We found that the ice began to melt from the heat of our hands. We used pipettes from the science cupboard, and we added salt first, and then some food colouring . We observed and recored the changes that took place. After all experiments were carried out , we then left the eggs in various areas of the classroom to help the ice to melt more quickly. We had great fun!
