September and October are usually quiet months for Gaelic games with local clubs all finishing up for the season past. However this week our school Gaelic football teams have been “flat out” playing in the Edmund Murray boys’ league and the Bronwyn Duffy girls’ league, as well as the St Patrick’s Grammar school P6/7 Boys Primary School competition.
In pouring rain last Thursday both out St Patrick’s boys and girls teams battled it out against St Francis PS, Tannaghmore PS and St Anthony’s Ps Lurgan in Eire Og Park in Craigavon. Both teams won a few and lost a few showed their developing skills in absolutely horrible conditions. As always our teams played with great determination and passion to do their best for the black and white jersey.
The very next day, Friday 6th October the boys P6/7 team headed out again this time to sherry’s fields to compete in the St Patrick’s Grammar Primary School Gaelic Competition. This year a total of 23 teams entered. The St Pat’s boys were in a group of six along with St John the Baptist Portadown, St Peter’s Collegeland, CBS Armagh, Roan PS Eglish and St Malachy’s PS Armagh. In a great run of play the lads managed to beat all five teams and were on a real roll. This superb set of results catapulted them into the Senior Cup Competition which the school team had won last year. In the Semi finals the St Pat’s boys played Cullyhann PS in two halves with only two scores between them at the final whistle the Cullyhanna team progressed to the final and ran out overall winners.
Congratulations to all our young players who represented the school this week in such wet conditions. You always make us proud.
