Ash Wednesday in St. Patrick’s.

18th Feb 2026
This morning, to mark Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent, Mr McKinley and some of our Primary 7 pupils led us in a special assembly.

Mr McKinley spoke about the season of Lent as a time for prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, offering thoughtful examples of how we could make small sacrifices, help those in need, and spend more time in prayer. We reflected on Jesus’ 40 days in the desert and encouraged everyone to think about ways they could grow in love, patience, and forgiveness during the weeks leading up to Easter.

We were delighted to also be joined by Father Barry and the latest addition to the diocese, Father Alex. We gave Father Alex a warm St. Patrick’s welcome, joining them both in prayer before they distributed ashes to P4-P7 in assembly. They then made their way around school to visit our younger pupils.

A lovely morning to begin this Lenten season.
