P7 Shared Education Programme Day One

25th Jan 2023

Pupils in our three primary seven classes took part in Day One of this year’s Shared Education Programme along with Hardy Memorial PS in Richhill. The day’s events took place both in Armagh and in Richhill simultaneously. The P7 theme for this year is “ The Armagh Rail Disaster of 1889”.

In Armagh, the P7 group’s first activity was a trip to the Armagh County Museum. Inside, Mr Sean Barden of the Museum showed the pupils maps, photos and artefacts from 1889, the year of the Armagh Rail Disaster. They also studied the many railway related artefacts within the museum’s glass display cases before visiting the memorial statue of the train disaster at the jail end of the mall. This group of pupils then returned to St Patrick’s to take part in a Zumba dance class and workout. Exhausting stuff indeed.

In Richhill the St Patrick’s youngsters were treated to a technology activity led by Mr James Connor from Sentinus. Again, this activity was linked with the theme of the Armagh Rail Disaster. During this class the Armagh and Richhill pupils worked together to create battery operated train engines and carriages. A big race at the end was sure to be great fun. The second activity was also involving technology. In groups, the children had to create a short “start stop” movie based on the “railway” theme on their iPads. The grand finale was for each group to show their film to the rest of their classmates. Can’t wait for Day two next month.
