The Final Day of our Walk to School Initiative

22nd Mar 2024
We crossed the finish line! 🏁 βœ…

The final day of our Walk to School Initiative with Sustrans NI's Big Walk and Wheel Event, Day 9, has been and gone, and we are delighted to say that it was our biggest crowd of all by far. We had our greatest number of staff joining us, the most parents we have had yet, and most important of all, far and away the highest number of pupils joining us for our walk to school. The Earth thanked us for our efforts this morning with a clear blue sky and warm sunshine accompanying us on the road to school.

On behalf of St. Patrick's Primary School, and our Eco-Committee in particular, we would like to say a great big thank you to all pupils and parents who played their part in the success of this initiative. This also includes all those pupils who already walked from home, and continued to do so, who live in our nearby areas of Drumbreda, Abbey Park and Longstone. Your continued efforts help the children to keep active, stay healthy, and best of all, reduce the overall carbon footprint produced by our school. We would also like to thank our Lollipop Man, Seamus, who greeted the children every day with the warmth and enthusiasm that he always does.

Over the course of the last nine school days, our Eco-Committee members have been recording the numbers of children travelling actively to school each morning. We are pleased to share that across this initiative, just over 1,500 active journeys have been made by parents, pupils and staff.

Thank you again to our wider school community - your continued support in all that we do is greatly appreciated and helps provide a greater range of experiences for your children.
